Dear vientianetimes webmaster
In fact I'm not sure what is your nationality. Anyway I have to say CONGRATULATION to you and your effort aiming to change Lao government system. But I'd like to know exactly your goal; and if one day the Lao government's power comes to your hand, how will you manage it? Finally I hope that you can tell me your answer very soon.
Friendly,
From Lao student

Webmaster Response:
I am 100% Laotian. Eat padak and tum mak houng. My parents are still in Vientiane.

When there is Democracy in Laos and free elections with multi-party system, we will setup our VientianeTimes.com office in Vientiane, improve this website, and have more up-to-date news about Laos for all of our readers around the world.  Personally, I want to teach Computer Science courses at high schools or colleges in Vientiane.

Ethnic minorities and national building in Laos: The Hmong in the Lao State (Dr. Gary Yia Lee's website)
During the civil war from 1961 to 1974, it is estimated that close to 15,000 Hmong died in the battle fields serving the Royal Lao Govt. On the Pathet Lao side, it is difficult to know how many of them had perished, but its Hmong commanders such as Thao Tou Saychou and General Praseut had paid with their own lives. The toll was heavy for the military; and the costs were even more hefty for Hmong civilians, especially on the RLG side when more than 150,000 Hmong had been uprooted from their own country and are now living as refugee in different parts of the world. more

My cheap rattle!
Well, well, well, the Danes couple finally landed in Australia. That is an end to a long cruelty in Lao prison imposed by our Lao govt.  Welcome the Danes back to the world of democracy and liberty.

We at VientianeTimes.com believe the Danes are innocent in this long-embattled saga. In contrast, we indeed know the facts that our Lao govt officials are crooks who are corrupt and greedy. Be Mr. Khamtay, Mr. Boun-ngung, Mr. Somsavath, Mr. Vilavong or other Lao officials, they are all crooks, they are all corrupt, they suck people's blood, they are not for the people, they are for themselves, they are Bin Laden's friends, and yes, they terrorized humanity.

Imagine what they will do with $1 million if the Danes pay the rest of those installments. These Lao officials will put that money in their own pockets and deposit to their personal oversea accounts. Lao people across the country are not going to benefit any dollars from these fees. Lao people will be poor as ever. One suggestion to the Danes: Don't pay any more dollars to our Lao govt. They are not representing Lao people.  My countrymen, they are crooks, they are evils...

For now, bye bye, farewell, so long, adios, and lakon

P.S. Another suggestion: The Danes should write a book about their experiences in this Lao saga.  Also we have a link to MuongLao.com for our readers to check out pictures from this year's Thatluang Festival. Enjoy!

Two different ideologies

If America is no good, why you, mom, went there in the first place and saved about $10,000, then came back to Laos and opened the watch shop in the Morning market. If Communist is good, why don't you go back to Hanoi?  Do you think Hanoi will give us that sum of money to raise our standard of living as we are now.  They will give you  more

What, no sticky rice!

I went to Asian grocery store to buy a sticky rice, it ran out.  Why? The store owner said Laotians bought all those 25-lbs bags ($10 per bag).  One customer bought 25 bags, he said. Even one of my close friend told me he wanted 5 bags for his sister. When I quized him, he said his sister feared that there might be an interruption in transporting rice from Thailand to U.S. shore after the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on America.

My friends, rest assures. If no rice, buy bread. Americans don't die from eating bread, so do we? Don't create demand-supply imbalance, otherwise sellers will jack up the prize and we all will shell out more greenbacks.

For now, bye bye, farewell, so long, adios and lakon.

Another semester, another school year!
Well, well, well, here again, this week school has started...I will be very busy as usual. Now I am a junior at Southern Connecticut State University. Besides school, for couple nights a week, I am teaching adults a course "Using FrontPage to setup a website" at a local high school (that is candy money!).  Also, I am honored to be a webmaster of this website to update news about Laos around the world.

For now, bye bye, farewell, so long, adios and lakon.

We need stimulation!
Politics, politics, politics...Sometimes, life is boring. We might need some types of medicine to wake us up. That is beauty.  By the way, beauty cannot be sold in Laos, but you have to use your heart to buy it (pun). Enjoy, my comrades!

MN Hmong 21st Annual Sports Tournament

Sao Hmong in Minnesota, USA. It reminded me at Vientiane High School in Laos when I had a Hmong girlfriend, the first love I've ever tasted. Well, she already married and has two kids now.

For now, check them out guys!  Beauty can only be seen, not touched though (just kidding)!
