Illegal import cars to crack down in Champassak

The customs officials of Champassak province in
collaboration with its security authorities is concentrating on crack
down illegal import cars are being increased in the province. 
Mr Khamphoui Phommachanh, Deputy Head Office of
Champassak’s Customs Service unveiled that after receiving
an order of the Ministry Finance on collection of illegal import cars
in the province. 

The Provincial Committee launched its inspection mission in June this
year, to collect number of illegal import cars. 

At present, the committee is able to enlist 2,742 vehicles registered,
of which 159 were cars but only 2,410 vehicles were paid tax. The
tax collection of around 2,500 motorbikes was over 2 billion kip and
2.7 billion kip of tax collection from 151 cars. 

Mr Khamphoui estimated the value of illegal import vehicles might be
high to 10 billion kip. The tax collection of vehicle was not able to
reach target, attributed to the implementation of Champassak
Governor policy related the exemption of import tax for cars used in
national security and defence, and the policy of exemption of import
tax car for veterans officers who dedicated in the revolution before
1975.
