Kay Danes speaks at 'Walls Beyond Borders' media club luncheon

AUSSIES CAPTURED OVERSEAS GENERATES MEDIA CLUB INTEREST

TICKETS are selling fast for next month’s Gold Coast Media Club luncheon, Walls Beyond Borders’.

In an Australian first, human rights campaigner Kay Danes and Terry Hicks, father of Guantanamo Bay detainee, David Hicks, will present the inside story of their personal dealings with overseas justice systems at Conrad Jupiters on Friday 26th August.

In 2000, the Laotian Government took hostage, tortured and imprisoned Kay and husband Kerry Danes.

Amidst a web of global intrigue, Laotian authorities targeted Kay Danes when a number of valuable gemstones were reported missing. Throughout the ordeal, the Danes maintained their innocence and only a sustained top-level government push brought them home 10 months later.

According to Gold Coast Media Club President, Karen Phillips, the chance to attend the year’s second Media Club luncheon should not be missed.

“Kay Danes has a unique perspective on this issue, with direct involvement giving her insights that no one would envy, but will no doubt be intriguing,” Ms Phillips said.

“Since her terrifying ordeal, Kay has become a high-profile speaker for human rights and a passionate advocate for prisoner’s rights.

“And the luncheon is not just for Media Club members, everyone’s welcome to attend,” she said.

Tickets for the luncheon cost $65 per person, including a lavish two-course meal with wines, and bookings can be made by calling the Conrad Jupiters Box Office on 5592 8303.

The proceeds benefit Variety Queensland - the children's charity.
